E-Mobility: SunRoof partners with Porsche Inter Auto Poland

Porsche Inter Auto Poland is a chain of car dealerships selling and servicing such brands as: Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Škoda, Lamborghini, Bentley and Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Its business partner will be SunRoof –a Swedish startup that has been developing solar roofs and  smart energy management solutions.

The market for photovoltaic micro-systems is still at an early stage, but environmental activities could accelerate its development. It has taken many years to improve the technology, but now it is the most cost-efficient form of energy production. We can see the ever increasing popularity of ideas based around a new lifestyle.

The choices related to the form of transport, building a house and sources of energy have a real impact on how quickly the trend becomes commonplace. Energy consumption will rise with the development of housing using heat pumps and heating films, the growth of the IoT (Internet of Things) market and the increasing popularity of electric and hybrid cars. Technological solutions in vehicle construction must be matched by the development of the infrastructure to support the trend, both in the public space and at home.

Strong growth of the e-mobility market in Poland

Registrations of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) took a 17% share of the market in 2020 in Poland.. Battery electric vehicles (BEV) are also becoming increasingly popular. Almost 2.5 times more of them were registered in Poland compared to 2019. Porsche Inter Auto Poland was responsible for 18% of the registrations of new Audi electric cars in Poland in 2020. For the Porsche brand it was as much as 23%.

Poland is not among the global leaders in the electromobility market. However, 2020 was a critical year in this regard. According to the data presented in the SAMAR report1, the sales of electrified cars over the last year fared much better than the whole market of new passenger cars. A total of 75,431 electric and hybrid vehicles were recorded in the databases of traffic departments in 2020, a 76% higher result than in 2019.

Showroom with a solar carport

The first stage of cooperation with the SunRoof brand involves the construction of a state-of-the-art carport in the Porsche Inter Auto showroom in Okęcie, Warsaw, planned for 2021. A solar garage will allow users to charge up multiple electric cars at the same time. The parking garages will be equipped with a special 2-in-1 roofing powered by solar technology. SunRoof offers the same technology for homes and public buildings.

„We equate home with a lifestyle that meets the challenges of modern life. We show a vision of the world in which the home is the beginning and the centre of energy independence. Working with Porsche Inter Auto Poland also gives us the opportunity to add another element to our vision – a more sustainable means of transport, in the form of an electric or hybrid car”, said Lech Kaniuk, CEO of SunRoof.

Further cooperation projects planned

For several years now Porsche Inter Auto Poland has engaged in activities aimed at developing electromobility. In the coming months it plans further projects with the SunRoof brand to promote modern solutions combining the construction and automotive industries. (hcn)
