Larger silicon wafers for more module output

The Sonnenstromfabrik in Wismar now uses larger wafers in its products. This increases the output of the modules.

Inspite of the larger wafers, the overall dimensions of the module have not changed.

The new design generates about five per cent more yield. The output of the 60-cell modules could thus be increased from 305 to 320 watts and from 310 watts to 325 watts. The wafers that are now installed allow larger cell dimensions: 158.75 x 158.75 millimetres, i.e. two millimetres more edge length than before. The dimensions of the Sonnenstromfabrik modules will therefore not change. The overall dimensions are still 1.70 by one meters. The engineers had already anticipated the space requirement with the introduction of the Excellent series. The new wafers are used in glass-foil modules, glass-glass modules and in-roof modules.

The output of the bifacial modules of Sonnenstromfabrik has also been increased from 290 to 310 watts, and the polymodules now reach 280 watts. All models are already being supplied. In doing so, Sonnenstromfabrik follows a current trend for larger wafer sizes. (mfo)
