Results of successful long-duration PV reliability test announced

Vikram Solar, one of India’s leading module manufacturers and a prominent provider of rooftop solar and EPC solutions announced a set of successful PQP (Product Qualification Programme) tests result. The assessment was done by PVEL LLC, an independent solar testing lab previously operated by DNV GL. This announcement was made as part of the Intersolar Europe 2019, where Vikram Solar was present with their own stand.

Earlier in 2017, Vikram Solar had claimed a position in the PV Module Reliability Scorecard Report 2017, published by the leading global certification body DNV GL. This year, the company submitted its Somera monocrystalline silicon and Eldora polycrystalline silicon photovoltaic modules for accelerated stress testing and characterisation within PVEL LLC’s (PVEL) Product Qualification Programme (PQP) 2019. The results reached and exceeded international quality and performance benchmarks.

Results will foster confidence of investors

1.1 GW of manufacturing capacity

The PQP is a comprehensive evaluation of the susceptibility to environmental effects and degradation mechanisms of PV module designs. Real-world failure scenarios are simulated under controlled laboratory conditions, while state-of-the-art module characterisation techniques are utilised to measure the performance of the panels as they undergo the stages of the protocol. As part of these tests, Vikram Solar PV modules went through extremely long-duration test protocols (i.e. up to 4 times the standards set by the IEC), such as: thermal cycling, damp heat, UV exposure, dynamic mechanical load, PID test, light-induced degradation, low to nil power degradation.

Vikram Solar is spearheading India’s solar revolution with a 1040 MW EPC capacity portfolio – including commissioned and under execution, Rooftop and Ground-mounted projects. The company currently has a manufacturing capacity of 1.1 GW and has a customer base spanning six continents. (mfo)
