A new single-axis tracker with four rows of vertically fitted modules

The NX Gemini tracking system can hold two modules in portrait and is particularly suited to sites with hard soils, challenging terrain, irregular plot shapes and windy conditions. In combination with NEXTracker’s flagship NX Horizon, the NX Gemini offers greater flexibility to configure systems for maximum energy output across a broad range of site conditions.

As it is able to hold two modules in portrait, NX Gemini allows shorter overall row lengths for design flexibility and contiguous solar panels for maximum array density. NX Gemini supports up to four 1,500 volt strings and requires only seven foundation posts for typical sites, delivering the industry’s lowest number of foundations per megawatt. This tracking system features a patent-pending self-locking, multi-actuator distributed drive system for maximum stability in all wind conditions.

Faster installation of modules

NX Gemini’s installation-friendly array height and drive system allows the attachment of all modules on the bottom half while the tracker is tilted, with the ability to rotate the entire row to complete the installation process on what used to be the top. This feature significantly speeds up construction and installation. Like its older brother NX Horizon, the NX Gemini features independent-row architecture, intelligent control systems and wireless communications. Of course, the tracker can be fitted with either mono- or bi-facial modules.

Based in California, NEXTracker had been short-listed for a 2019 Smarter E Award for a solar plant that combines active tracking technology and vanadium-flow battery energy storage. Single-axis tracking systems in general have seen a considerable rise in sales in recent times. (mfo)
