ABB puts out the new 1.500 volts DC outdoor central inverter PVS980

The new ABB central inverter PVS980 features increased DC input voltage up to 1.500 volts DC and a high power rating of up to two Megawatts, to drive down the overall system costs and to provide an even more attractive solution for investors and plant owners alike. The inverter also includes the standard grid support features of PVS series inverters such as active and reactive power control including night time reactive power support.

ABB has developed the PVS980 with a global mindset to ensure the inverter supports a wide range of local utility requirements through adjustable grid support features, as well as the future smart grids. One of the key features of the PVS980 is the self-contained cooling system to ensure endurance. Together with the pre-engineered ABB medium voltage solutions, optimized for a rapid connection of the inverter to medium voltage grid, the PVS980 features ground-breaking plug-and-play solution for multi-megawatt PV plants, developed on the basis of decades of experience in power converter and inverter technology as well as on medium voltage equipment.

The inverter uses phase transition and thermosiphon technology to avoid external air entering the critical compartments of the inverter, which reduces the risk of corrosive gases or sand entering the inverter and causing damage. The inverter can operate from below freezing to extreme heat in 100 percent humidity without jeopardizing functionality. With the simplicity of air cooling and with the power density of a liquid cooled inverter, ABB provides an inverter with high efficiency and low maintenance and easy to commission design as there are no fillable liquids, pumps, valves, inhibitors or leaks.
