Technology leap in solar PV modules and integrated solutions

Trina Solar is currently rolling out its next generation of PV modules. The product portfolio, which includes utility-scale PV modules up to 415Wp and residential PV modules up to 345Wp, incorporates key technologies maximising power and efficiency by combining half-cut N-type and P-type cells, multi-busbar design and bifacial cell technology.

Trina Solar is upgrading its full production capacity to half-cut cells, and the shift will be completed by the third quarter of 2019. The benefits of half-cut cell technology include improvements in module performance of up to 10Wp. Trina Solar’s mono and polycrystalline modules in standard residential and utility-scale formats feature 120 or 144 half-cut cells, respectively. The company has been granted 24 patents for its advanced multi-busbar technology, and has been applying this technology in the mass production of modules since November 2017.

Up to 30% more energy

TrinaPro for tracking systems integrates Trina Solar’s solar PV modules, Nclave trackers and inverters. Nclave is a Trina Solar company. The smart TrinaPro solution can significantly boost power output and reduce system levelised cost of energy (LCoE) by combining premium components, optimised system integration and smart O&M interconnection. At the Intersolar Europe, a tracking system with newly designed bifacial Duomax Twin modules formed the centrepiece of the TrinaPro display. The combination of bifacial technology with single-axis trackers is particularly effective in boosting additional energy production by up to 30 per cent.

Strong supply capacity for the future

Gonzalo de la Viña, Head of Module Business Europe at Trina Solar, said, “We are very pleased with the great results Trina Solar’s in-house R&D team has achieved by merging several new technologies into a new module generation. There is a clear trend towards the deployment of double-glass technology, as well as the use of bifacial cells in combination with multi-busbar technology, even in residential applications. The reason is that these technologies boost both performance and durability, resulting in extended lifetime and warranties for Trina Solar products. And we are glad to say we have strong supply capacity to meet the growing demand in the near future.” Gonzalo de la Viña continued: „Trina Solar is moving ahead on its way to becoming an integrated smart energy solution provider. Besides our excellent results in the module business, we have achieved great success in rolling out our TrinaPro solution in Europe. Our utility-scale customers clearly see the added value of having a smart system management at their hands to improve output and performance.” (mfo)
