IBC Solar withdraws from Turkey

IBC Solar will be changing its business strategy in Turkey during the course of the year and will supply the local market for roof mounted projects exclusively as a supplier. The market development for roof mounted project business will be carried out by the newly founded IBT Solar. Under the management of Bülent Yildiz and Hakan Daltaban, IBT Solar will be active as Preferred Premium Partner for IBC Solar. The distribution business will be covered by the headquarters in Germany.

Legal obstacles since the beginning of this year

There are significant bureaucratic obstacles to overcome in Turkey, particularly when it comes to setting up PV plants, according to the company.  Over the past few years, it was still possible to divide large plants into individual projects with under 1 MW output each as well as to guarantee an uncomplicated grid connection for these in compliance with the legal regulations. Since the beginning of the year, this is no longer an option. These and other changes in the Turkish market, as well as the national regulatory situation prompted IBC Solar to make the decision to only serve this specific market indirectly as a supplier in the future.

“Turkey is still an important market for us with immense potential”, states Albert Engelbrecht, Senior Vice President Solutions International IBC Solar. “However, the changes in the laws have forced us to restructure the business strategy, which is why after careful consideration, we have decided to make changes to our market development approach.”

IBT Solar as a local partner

Aside from ending the previous activity of Bülent Yildiz and Hakan Daltaban as managers of the Turkish IBC subsidiary, we will still be maintaining the close relationships with the Turkish partners as part of the IBC Solar international partner program. IBT Solar will continue to offer the tried-and-tested quality promise for roof projects and open area systems, as well as the products from the German photovoltaic system service provider. “As a Preferred Premium Partner, we will continue to represent the IBC Solar brand and offer their product portfolio in the future”, state Bülent Yildiz and Hakan Daltaban as managers of their own company IBT Solar.

In collaboration with IBC Solar, IBC Solar Energy Turkey has undertaken several large-scale projects between 1.1 MW – 17.5 MW over the past four years since the start of the partnership in 2015.
