Electric cars: New Renault Kangoo Z.E. with wider range and faster charging

New Kangoo Z.E. features major innovations: a new battery, new engine, new charger, new innovative connected services, and a heat pump in the air conditioning system. It is equipped with a new Z.E.33 battery (33kWh) by LG Chem. Due to a higher energy density the power is eleven kWh higher than the previous battery. The upgraded electric light vehicle gains also a new engine, developing 60 hp and based on the ZOE R75/90 engine. The new Kangoo Z.E. is made at Renault’s Maubeuge plant in northern France.

Range in real use of around 200 kilometers

The electric car now proposes a range of 270 km NEDC compared with 170 km for the previous model. In real use, on a delivery cycle3, the vehicle would have a range of around 200 km with a single load. New Kangoo Z.E. has a greater available range than any other light electric vehicle (LEC). A heat pump linked to the air conditioning is maintaining range in cold weather.

New 7 kW AC charger – full charge around six hours

Charging time is cut thanks to a new-generation 7 kW AC charger. A full charge takes around six hours from a 7 kW Wallbox. With this more powerful charger the upgraded electric car recovers a range of 35 km in just one hour of charging (in a temperate climate). A cable for the wallbox and public charging points is standard, also a 230 Volt cable for emergencies is to be offered.

Sales starting middle of the year

The electric light vehicle is available in two sizes, with 4,20 meters and 4,66 meters of length. Prices start at around 24.000 Euro (minus buyer’s premium) plus battery lease of 86 Euro/month. New Kangoo will go on sale in Europe from mid-2017. (HCN)
